The housing kit encloses the top, sides, and ends of the generator set and is removable toprovide access for overhaul or replacement of majorcomponents of the generator set. The housing isattached to the base assembly and the support frameassembly. With the housing kit installed the generator setcan be operated at ambient temperatures from 125 F(51.7 C) down to -25 F (-31.7 C). The housing doorsallow access to the inside of the generator set. Theshutter assembly at the radiator end of the generator setis automatically controlled and helps in maintainingcorrect temperatures of the generator set. Major portionsof the housing kit include panels, doors, shutters, electrical harness, and necessary hardware items toassemble the housing kit. The troubleshootingprocedures contained in table 5-8, of the Operator andOrganizational Maintenance manual completely isolateany faults that may occur. Test and adjustmentprocedures are contained in this section.15-25. INSTALLATION. Install housing kit in thefollowing sequence: door and shutter assembly, rightside, front (radiator end), left side, rear, top, and electricalharness.a. DoorandShutterAssembly. There are fourdoor and shutter assemblies (figure 15-16).Two are for the right side of the generator set,and two are for the left side. Assemblies aresimilar, except that the lower actuatorassemblies are mounted in different locations, depending upon right-hand or left-hand doorlocation. Assemble two right-hand doors asfollows:(1) Attach shutter assembly (32, figure 15-16)to door (39) with screws (29), washers(31), and nuts (30).(2) Attach both brackets (13) to drive supportbracket (17) with four flat head screws(10), washers (12), and nuts (11).(3) Install bracket (25) to control bar (36) withtwo screws (24).(4) Install spacer (14) and bracket (17) ondoor with four screws (7), washers (9),and nuts (8) attaching clamp (40) withthe same hardware. Install actuator (6)on bracket (17) with two clampassemblies (1), washers (2), and nutssupplied with clamp assembles (1).Install rod (5) with pin (4) onto actuator(6) shaft and through hole in bracket(25), then secure with quick-release pin(3).(5) Install switch support (21) with spacers(23) and shim (22) and switch cover (16)using two screws (18), washers (20), andnuts (19). Install switch (15) onto switchsupport (21) with its attaching hardware.Line up toggle switch (15) with slot inbracket (25), so that lateral movement ofshutters will actuate switch.(6) Install chain (28) with screw (26) and nut(27).(7) This completes assembly of right-handdoors. Left-hand doors are similarlyassembled, except actuator mechanismis on the opposite side.b. RightSide. Refer to figure 5-17 and install asfollows:(1) Attach upper side panel (42) to thesupport frame with nine screws (39),washers (41), and nuts (40).(2) Attach lower side panel (35) to the baseassembly with nine screws (32),washers (34), and nuts (33); and onescrew (59), washer (34), and nut (33).(3) Attach side panel (54) to the supportframe (at the top and bottom only) withfive screws (52), and nuts (53). Installtwo screws (36), washers (38),15-21
