Theengine air outlet uses a shutter assembly to controlengine temperature. A thermostatic element controlsThe engine has a pressure air cooling system. Finsshutter opening which limits air flow when the engineon the engtne blower draw air into the front of theis cold. When the engine air temperature reachesengine housing and force it past the cylinders and outapproximately 120 °F, (49°C) the shutters begin tothe right side of the engine. A separate blower on theopen. The shutters are completely open at 140°Fgenerator rotor draws air into the rear of the gener-(60° C) under full rated load.Section II. MAINTENANCE3-2. ENGINECOOLINGSYSTEM.a. Inspect on Equipment (see figure 3-1). On ASK equippedgenerators, refer to Operator and Organizational MaintenanceManual and remove cover assembly and exhaust plenum.(1) Shutter Assembly. Inspect shutter assembly(1) for physical damage. Check for debris within as-sembly. Check for smooth operation of shutters whenmoved manually. Check for chipped paint or rusting.(2) Bracket Assembly. Inspect that brackets (2)are securely mounted to shutters (3). Check thatbracket bearings are not excessively worn. Refer toOperatorand Organizational MaintenanceManual.(3) Shutters. Inspect shutters (3) for physicaldamage and secure mounting to brackets (2).(4) Air Housing Panel and Door. Inspect air hous-ing panel and door (5) for physical damage.(5) Grille. Inspect grille (6) for secure mountingto blower housing (7). Check for physical damage.(For units without ASK.)(6) Blower Housing. Inspect blower housing (7)for physical damage. Check that blower housing issecurely mounted to engine.b. Removal. Refer to Operator and Organizational MaintenanceManual.c. Disassemble. Disassemble repairable com-ponents of the cooling system per Operator andOrganizational Maintenance Manual.Solvent, Dry Cleaning P-D-680, Type II, is flam-mable and moderately toxic to skin, eyes andrespiratory tract. Eye and skin protection re-quired. Good general ventilation is normallyadequate.d. Repair.(1) Shuttsr Assembly Refer to Operator andOrganizational Maintenance Manual to remove andreplace defective components. Repair physical damageby removing the dents, welding breaks in shutter as-sembly box. Clean repaired area with dry cleaningsolvent Federal Specification P-D-680. Paint as re-quired with MIL-T-704, type A, semigloss, olive drab, color no. 24087.(2) Bracket Assemblies. Replace bracket (2) orbearings if required.(3) Shutters. Bump out dents and straighten shut-ters (3) if required. Clean with dry cleaning solventand repaint if necessary.(4) Air Housing Panel and Door. Clean air hous-ing panel and door (5) with dry cleaning solvent andrepaint if necessary.(5) Grille. Straighten any bent wires on grille(6) or weld if required to repair. (For units without ASK.)(6) Blower Housing. Bump out dents in blowerhousing (7), repair cracks with welds if necessaryand clean with dry cleaning solvent. Paint as required.e. Installation. Install engine cooling system and on ASKequipped generators, refer to Operator and OrganizationalMaintenance Manual and install cover assembly and exhaustplenum.3-3. HIGH TEMPERATURE CUTOUT SWITCH.a. Remove (see figure 3-1).
