Damage torods, plate and couplers couldresult if left loose.NOTEIf the slide hammer is assembled,go to step (c).(b) Connect the slide hammerstriker plate (1) to bottom of the slidehammer rod (2).Tighten to the end ofthreads.Connect lockwasher (3) and nut(4) to bottom of the slide hammer rod(2).Tighten firmly against the strikerplate (1).Connect the ground rod coupler(5) to the bottom of the slide hammerrod (2).Connect the ground rod section(6) to the other end of the ground rodcoupler (5).Tighten the ground rodsection (6) to make firm contact withthe slide hammer rod (2).(c) Remove nut (4) from thetop of the slide hammer rod (2) if neces-sary, and place the slide hammer (7) ontop of the slide hammer rod.Slide downuntil it rests on the striker plate (1).Attach nut (4) to the top of the slidehammer rod.Tighten to the end of thethreads.(d) While holding in a ver-tical position, lift the slide hammer(7).Slide it downward to drive theground rod section (6) into the ground.Continue driving the ground rod section(6) until approximately 4 inches (10centimeters) remains above ground level.(e) Disconnect the slidehammer assembly (8) from the ground rodcoupler (5).(f) Attach the ground rodsection (6) to the ground rod coupler(5).Attach another ground rod coupler(5) to the top of a new ground rod sec-tion (6).Connect the slide hammerassembly (8) to the new ground rodcoupler (5).(g) Repeat steps (d), (e)and (f) until at least 8 feet (2.4meters) of ground rod is buried.Dis-connect nut (4), and remove the slidehammer (7) from the slide hammer assem-bly (8).Disconnect the top ground rodcoupler (5).(h) Store the slide hammerassembly (8) and unused ground rod inthe accessory box.Reset curbside hand-brake.Secure the slide hammer to thesteel bar on front of the trailer withlock pin.
