(1) Air Cleaner Element. Slide element (4, figure
3-10) over stud in housing (5), install seal (3) on wing
n u t ( 2 ) a n d s e c u r e e l e m e n t w i t h w i n g n u t ( 2 ) . H a n d
tighten wing nut. Install seal (9) and dust cap (1). Be
c e r t a i n T o p o n d u s t c a p f a c e s u p . R e t i g h t e n c l a m p

a. Inspect (see figure 3-12).
(1) Control Cubicle Assembly. Inspect cubicle for
d i r t , g r e a s e o r p h y s i c a l d a m a g e w h i c h m i g h t a f f e ct
o p e r a t i o n o f t h e u n i t . L o o s e n t h r e e f a s t e n e r s h o l d i n g
c o n t r o l p a n e l t o p e r m i t a c c e s s t o t h e i n s i d e o f t h e
c u b i c l e . C h e c k t o s e e t h a t a l l p a r t s m o u n t e d t o t h e
c u b i c l e a r e s e c u r e a n d a l l h a r d w a r e i s i n p l a c e .
C h e c k t h a t a l l i n s t r u m e n t s a n d c o n t r o l s o p e r a t e n o r-
mally when unit is running. Check for broken or badly
i n s u l a t e d h a r n e s s w i r e s a n d , i f n e c e s s a r y , r e f e r to
higher level of maintenance.
( 2 ) P a n e l L i g h t A s s e m b l i e s ( D S 1 a n d D S 2 ) . I n -
s p e c t p a n e l l i g h t a s s e m b l i e s ( 1 ) f o r c r a c k e d o r m i s s -
i n g l a m p c o v e r s .
C h e c k t h a t e l e c t r i c a l c o n n e c t i o n s
are clean and tight.

to check that lamps are operable.

c a l c o n n e c t i o n s t o s e e t h a t t h e y a r e c l e a n a n d t i g h t.
C h e c k t o s e e t h a t w h e n b u t t o n o n b r e a k e r i s p u s h e d
in or pulled out, it will remain in that position.
(6) Master Rotary Switch (S1). Inspect switch for
p h y s i c a l d a m a g e . I n s p e c t e l e c t r i c a l c o n n e c t i o n s t o
s e e t h a t t h e y a r e c l e a n a n d t i g h t . C h e c k t o s e e t h at
when placed in the OFF, PRIME & RUN AUX FUEL,
or PRIME & RUN positions the switch will remain in
p o s i t i o n . C h e c k t o s e e t h a t w h e n p l a c e d i n t h e P R E-
H E A T p o s i t i o n a n d r e l e a s e d , s w i t c h r e t u r n s t o O F F
p o s i t i o n . W i t h D C C o n t r o l C i r c u i t B r e a k e r ( C B 2)
pulled out (unit will not crank), check to see that when
r e l e a s e d f r o m S T A R T p o s i t i o n t h e s w i t c h w i l l a u t o-
matically return to PRIME & RUN position.
( 7 ) P a n e l L i g h t S w i t c h ( S 2 ) . I n s p e c t s w i t c h f or
p h y s i c a l d a m a g e . I n s p e c t f o r c l e a n a n d t i g h t e l e c-
t r i c a l c o n n e c t i o n s . C h e c k t o s e e t h a t s w i t c h w i l l r e-
main in both ON and OFF positions.
(8) Range Selector Switch (S6). Inspect switch for
p h y s i c a l d a m a g e . I n s p e c t f o r c l e a n a n d t i g h t e l e c-
t r i c a l c o n n e c t i o n s . C h e c k t o s e e t h a t s w i t c h w i l l r e-
main in each of the six switch positions.
( 9 ) V o l t a g e A d j u s t R h e o s t a t ( R 1 ) . I n s p e c t r h e o -
s t a t f o r p h y s i c a l d a m a g e . I n s p e c t f o r c l e a n a n d t i g ht
e l e c t r i c a l c o n n e c t i o n s . N o t e r h e o s t a t p o s i t i o n a nd
c h e c k t h a t r h e o s t a t m o v e s s m o o t h l y t h r u i t s r a n g e.
Return rheostat to previously noted position.
(10) AC Voltage Regulator (A2). Visually inspect
b o a r d a n d c o m p o n e n t s f o r s i g n s o f o v e r h e a t i n g,
c l e a n l i n e s s a n d p h y s i c a l d a m a g e . I n s p e c t f o r c l e an
a n d t i g h t c o n n e c t i o n s t o t h e b o a r d a n d t h a t b o a r d is
s e c u r e l y
m o u n t e d.
