CHAPTER 10DAY TANK ASSEMBLY REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS10-1. General.a. The day tank is provided to receive fuel fromthe–main fuel tank through the fuel transfer pump andprimary fuel filters and to supply fuel to the fuel in-jection pump via the secondary fuel filter.b. The day tank is mounted on a support bracketabove the fuel injection pump on the right side of theengine. Fuel is transferred by two electric pumpsfrom the main fuel tank to the day tank.10-2.Refernance10-3.a.Removal.to the Operator and Organizational Mainte-Manual to remove the day tank.Cleaning, Inspect ion and Repair.Cleaning.(1) Clean exterior of day tank with cleaningsolvent, Federal Specification P-D-680 and drythoroughly.(2) Remove all gasket and adhesive materialsfrom mating surfaces.(3) Flush tank thoroughly with hot water orsteam under pressure.Clean interior with solventand dry thoroughly.b.Inspection(1) Inspect hardware and thread areas fordamage.(2) Inspect fuel passages for obstructions.(3) Inspect interior to insure that scale andsediment have been removed.c. Repair.(1) Repair all threaded areas with a finemill file.
