TM 9-6115-604-34NAVFAC P-8-633-34c.Repair.(1)Refinish warped gasket surfaces on the intake manifolds (46 and 47), or air balance connections (42) usinga surface grinder.(2)Replace the intake manifolds (46 and 47) or air balance connections (42) if porosity or cracks extendthrough the capscrew holes.(3)Repair acceptable porosity or cracks by welding in accordance with MIL-STD-248.d.Install.NOTETo permit shifting the components for alignment, do not tighten the capscrews untilinstructed to do so.(1)Refer to Table 2-2. Fabricate six guide studs and install them in the upper cylinder block holes to hold thegaskets (48, Figure 9-78) in place.NOTEThree gaskets are used with each manifold.(2)Coat new gaskets (48) with sealing compound, MIL-S-45180, and install the gaskets over the guide studs.(3)Coat new rubber sleeves (49) with sealing compound, MIL-S-45180, and install them in the recesses in theintake manifold (46 or 47).(4)Position the intake manifold (46 or 47) over the guide studs, and install the lockwashers (2) and washers(3) on six of the capscrews (44). Install the capscrews through the damps (45) and intake manifold (46 or47), and tighten them finger tight.(5)Remove the guide studs and install the other six washers (3), lockwashers (2), and capscrews (44) fingertight.(6)Install the guide studs in the cylinder block in accordance with step (1), above, and install the remainingmanifold (46 or 47) in accordance with steps (2) through (5), above.(7)Coat new gaskets (43) with sealing compound MIL-S-45180, and position them on the manifolds (46 and47).(8)Install the air balance connections (42) using washers (3), lockwashers (2), and capscrews (1 and 41). SeeFigure 9-80. Tighten the capscrews (1 and 41, Figure 9-78) in the sequence shown to 10 pound-feet (14newton-meters). This is not the final torque on the capscrews.(9)Coat new gaskets (5) with sealing compound MIL-S-45180, position the gaskets under the crossoverhousings (4), and install the washers (3), lockwashers (2), and capscrews (1). Cross-tighten the capscrewsto 10 pound-feet (14 newton-meters); this is not the final torque on the capscrews.(10)Using the sequence shown in Figure 9-81, tighten the manifold capscrews (44, Figure 9-78) in three stagesto 30 to 35 pound-feet (41 to 47 newton-meters).(11)Using the sequence given in step (8), above, tighten the air balance connection capscrews (1 and 41) intwo stages to 30 to 35 pound-feat (41 to 47 newton-meters).(12)Cross-tighten the crossover housing capscrews (1), in two stages to 30 to 35 pound-feat (41 to 47 newton-meters).9-140
