Repair minor thread damage bychasing. Repair stripped holes in accordance with paragraph 2-12. Replace stripped capscrews andfittings.(c)Inspect the cover (15, Figure 6-8) for wear and scoring in gear rotation area. Replace the cover ifscoring or a wear edge can be felt with the fingernail.(d)Check the bushings (9) in the cover (15). Replace a bushing if the bushing maximum insidediameter is greater than 0.5016 inch (12.741 mm).(e)Replace the cover dowels (16), or dowel ring (17), if necessary, using an arbor press. Install thedowel ring (17) so that it bottoms in the recess in the cover (15). Install the cover dowels (16) so thatthey will protrude slightly below the surface of the cover, and will extend through the gasket (8) intothe housing (7).6-15
