This chapter contains instructions for opera-tion, power and control connections. Location andfunction of controls and indicators and safety precau-tions are also provided.b. Refer to table 3-2 and perform “Before Opera-tion” Preventive Maintenance Checks and Servicesbefore operating the Generator Set.c. Before operating set, check for proper installa-tion. See Chapter 4, Section I.d. Table 2-1 describes the Generator Set controlsand instruments (see figure 2-3).All personnel involved in the operation ormaintenance of the Generator Set shouldbecome thoroughly familiar with the safe-ty precautions prior to performing opera-tion or maintenance procedures.Prior to connection of load cables, makesure all switches are in OFF or OPEN posi-tion, the Generator Set is not operating.Inspect the Generator Set ground connec-tion prior to starting the unit. Electricaldefects in load lines or load equipment cancause death by electrocution when contactis made with an ungrounded system.Do not smoke or carry an open flame whenservicing the batteries or fuel tank. Exer-cise extreme care to prevent electrical arc-ing in the area of the batteries.Battery electrolyte contains sulfuric acidand can cause severe burns. Handle it withcare. If the electrolyte comes in contactwith the body, eyes, or clothing, rinse im-mediately with clean water. Avoid spillingelectrolyte on painted surfaces. Do notwork alone or smoke when servicingbatteries.Do not operate Generator Set in an enclos-ed area unless the exhaust gases are pipedto the outside. Continued breathing of ex-haust fumes is dangerous.Stay clear of all exposed electrical ter-minals when Generator Set is operating.R e m o v e a l l r i n g s , w a t c h e s a n d o t h erjewelry when performing maintenance onthis equipment. Loose fitting clothingshould be secured to prevent it fromcatching in moving parts.2-2. POWER CONNECTIONS.BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO CONNECTL O A D C A B L E S , M A K E S U R E T HEG E N E R A T ORSET ISN O TOPERATING, ALL SWITCHES ARE INTHE OFF OR OPEN POSITION ANDTHE SET IS GROUNDED.To connect load cables to Generator Set, attach loadleads to terminals located in output control box as re-quired. See figure 2-1.2-3. EQUIPMENT RECONNECTION.When selecting position 120V, 1 PH unit isin 2 wire configuration. A situationcan/may exist in allowing a double fault tooccur. To eliminate this possibility thereconnection switch will be rewired byusing a AWG #4 wire jumper between ter-minals #LO and #6 of section 9.Before operating unit, be certain voltage and frequen-cy rating of the load matches that of the GeneratorSet. If the output voltage of the Generator Set mustbe changed to match a particular load, rotate recon-nection switch located on Reconnection Panel todesired output connections. See figure 2-2.2-4. STARTING GENERATOR SET (SEEFIGURE2-3).Do not operate in excess of 200 hours con.tinuous with JP-4. MILJ-5624 bulk fuel.Do not use either to aid in starting unit.Hearing protection is required.Change 62-1
