Replace if damaged, otherwise, clean in fuel oil and dry with compressedair.(20) Check drive shaft bushing (49) for signs ofseizure or burrs. Replace if damaged.(21) Check drive shaft bushing (49), XD withinside micrometers; if worn beyond 0.7525inch (19.11 mm) replace bushing asfollows:(a) Remove worn bushing using a gougechisel or half inch pipe tap. Aftertapping bushing, screw a half inch pipecap on a close nipple and screw the halfinch nipple into the bushing. Insert apunch through the rear of the housingand drive out the bushing.(b) Apply a thin coat of high-pressurelubricant to a new front drive shaftbushing, press bushing into housingflush with housing bore using an arborpress.(c) Line ream bushing to 0.7495 to 0.7505inch. (19.04 to 19.06 mm) with the reamfixture, and a well-oiled 0.750 inch (3/4inch {19.05 mm}) reamer. Checkbushing ID.(d) Visually check governor sleeve andbarrel (41 and 42) and plunger (34) forwear; replace if worn or damaged.(22) GovernorBarrelReplacement.(a) To locate a new governor sleeve andbarrel (41 and 42, figure 13-20), scribe acenter- line on the barrel and sleeve (41and 42) and spring pack housing (43)lining up the fuel passages so fuel flowwill not be restricted.(b) Heat housing (50) in oven to 300 F(149 C).(c) Coat new governor barrel with high-pressure lubricant.(d) Place governor sleeve and barrel (41and 42) in housing bore with chamferedend first and location pin hole on bottomside, lining up scribe marks, then pressbarrel in housing with arbor press until itbottoms against spring pack housing. This is important to align barrel retainingpin holes.(e) Install spring (36), shim (35), plunger(34), spacer (40), washer (39), driver(38), and secure with pin (37).NOTEThe chamfered side of washer (39) mustbe installed next to driver (38). Theremust be at least 0.002 to 0.005 inch (0.05to 0.13 mm) clearance between washerface and driver so washer will float.(23) AirFuelControlReplacement.(a) Lubricate new barrel O-rings (7 and 8,figure 13-20) on plunger (6).13-48
