SERVICE UPON RECEIPT OF EQUIPMENT4-1.UNLOADING THE GENERATOR SET.WARNINGUse the slings provided and a lifting device with acapacity of 20 tons (18,000 kg). Do not allow thegenerator set to swing while it is suspended.Failure to observe this warning may result inserious injury or death to personnel.4-2.INSPECTION AND SERVICING THEEQUIPMENT.a.Inspection.(1) Inspect radiator fordamage.(2) Inspect radiator fan drive beltfor proper tension (figure 4-1).Code A.(3) Check that pulley guard andvibration damper guard aresecure.(4) Inspect all air cleanerconnections for tightness.(5) Inspect the fuel, water, andcoolant lines for cracks andleaks.(6) Inspect that the cooling systemshut-off cock (figure 4-2) isclosed and the three enginewater drain points (figure 4-3)are closed.(7) Make certain that the crankcasedrain is closed (figure 4-4).(8) Inspect that fuel tank drain cock(figure 4-5) is closed.(9) Make a thorough visualinspection of the entiregenerator set and accessoriesfor loose or missing mountinghardware, fuses, bulbs, ordamaged or other missing parts.Report all damaged or missingparts.b.Servicing.WARNINGDo not smoke or use an open flamein the vicinity when filling fuel tank.(1) Fill fuel tank withappropriate fuel. (SeeAppendix B for quantityand type of fuel required.)(2) Fill radiator with arcticantifreeze solution inaccordance with table 4-1.WARNINGDo not smoke or use an open flame inthe vicinity when servicing batteries.Batteries generate a highly explosivehydrogen gas during charging.Electrolyte is sulfuric acid diluted withwater and can cause severe acid burnswhen spilled on skin or clothing. Useextreme care in handling whileservicing batteries. When servicingbatteries reference TM 9-6140-200-14.(3) Batteries are shipped in a dry state.Battery electrolyte must berequisitioned separately. See table3-1 for quantity and electrolyte stocknumber. To activate the battery,remove cell caps and fill batterycells 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) above plateswith electrolyte. Make sure ventholes in cell caps are open, andreplace caps. The electrolyte levelmust be rechecked approximately30 minutes after initial filling as theplates and separators will absorbthe solution, thus resulting in4-1
