Refer toappropriate manuals/directives for specific in-structions.c. (USMC) Special Stockage Indicator Code andReplacement Factor (Column 3).(1) Special Stockage Indicator Code. This columnreflects the condition under which certain maintenanceparts, (parts assigned NSN’S and coded in the “P” seriessource code of the SMR code), are stocked. The codes areexplained as follows:No CodeDTIndicates that the part may or may not beauthorized in initial allowances to using orsupporting organizations. The manner of deter-mining initial allowances is explained inparagraph (2) below.Applied to maintenance parts that are notconsidered critical or essential to be on handand are, therefore, not authorized in initialallowances; however, these items are stockedwithin the Supply System and may be re-quisitioned based upon usage.Indicates that the part is authorized in garrisonoperating allowances in order to comply withstate and local laws; however, the part is notauthorized in Mount-Out since it is not combatessential.(2) Replacement Factor. This column reflects thereplacement factor assigned to each nationally stocknumbered maintenance repair part. This factor is assignedto the repair part on its first appearance in the publications. The replacement factor, expressed as a decimal, indicatesthe average rate at which the type of item so coded hasbeen used by Marine Corps field units or the rate at whichdesign engineers anticipate the item will fail, wear out, orotherwise require replacement. All computations are bas-ed on a replacement period of one year. Therefore, areplacement factor of 0.08, applied to an item in this stocklist, indicates that eight out of every one hundred of suchitems used in the end item of equipment to which thispublication pertains, is predicted to need replacement inone year. Likewise, 0.004 reflects that four out of everythousand in use are predicted to require replacement inone year, while 2.0 shows that every one in use is predictedto be replaced twice during each year.(a) Initial authorized stockage levels of consumableand salvageable items for an organization are to becomputed for predicted consumption based on the numberof items employed and/or supported by an organizationwithin the number of days for which stockage is authoriz-ed. In computing Garrison Operating Stock or Mount-Out,authorized levels can be determined by the requiringMarine Corps unit by multiplying the replacement factortimes the quantity used per equipment times the number of4end items employed by the using organization or sup-ported by the service organization times the authorized daylevel expressed in and divided by 12. Specific formulas andexamples are provided in Marine Corps Order, MCOP 4 4 0 0 . 7 9 –.The replacement factors used in initial stockage com-putations should be revised, if warranted, after significantusage is experienced in accordance with the guidelines ofMCO 4400.32_. The following formula replacement factor,“X” represents actual usage experience (1 year), “A”represents the application per equipment, and “B”represents the number of equipments supported.(b) Initial allowances for maintenance float items(recoverability codes “R” and “D”) for the FMF andappropriate post and stations are as furnished by InitialIssue Actions.Changes to maintenance replacement rates resultingfrom actual usage may require recomputation ofmaintenance float allowances by holding units. Any re-quired recomputation of maintenance float allowances willbe made in accordance with MCO 4000.6_.(c) The replacement factor for same as (S/A) items isindicated upon the first appearance of the item in the majorcombination, component or assembly.d. (ALL) National Stock Number (Column 4) indicatesthe National Stock Number assigned to the item and will beused for requisitioning purposes.e. (ALL) Description. Indicates the Federal item nameand any additional descriptions of the item required. Theabbreviation “w/e” when used as part of the nomenclature, indicates that the National Stock Number includes allarmament, equipment, accessories and repair parts issuedwith the item. A part number or other reference number isfollowed by the applicable five digit Federal Supply Codefor manufacturer. If two referencenumbers and Federal Supply Codes for manufacturer arelisted, the first listing refers to the Department of DefenseDrawing Number, the second listing refers to the actualpart manufacturer. Items that are included in kits and setsare listed below the name of the kit or setf. (ALL) Unit of Measure (U/M). Indicates the standardof the basic quantity of the Iisted item as used in performingthe actual maintenance function. This measure is ex-pressed by a two-character alphabetical abbreviation (e.g.,ea, in, pr, etc.). When the unit of measure differs from theunit of issue, the lowest unit of issue that will satisfy therequired units of measure will be requisitioned.g. (ALL) Quantity Incorporated in Unit. Indicates thequantity of the item used in the assembly group. A ‘V”appearing in this column in lieu of a quantity indicates thata definite quantity cannot be indicated (e.g., shims, spacers, etc.).h. (MC) Quantity Per Equipment. Indicates the con-solidated quantity of a maintenance part used on an enditem upon every appearance of the part in this publication.
