TM 9-6116-668-132.10 OPERATION IN EXTREME COLD (BELOW -22 °F (-30 °C))1.Fill tank with winter diesel fuel with appropriate additive or flow improver (paragraph 2.3.4).2.Use engine oil of the appropriate viscosity class (paragraph 2.3.3).3.Check generator V belts: winter type is smooth.If a toothed belt is installed, refer to the next higher level of maintenance to install proper belt.NOTESW also Engine Preheating plate (figure 2-16).4.Connect battery sets in parallel to start diesel engine (paragraph 2.351).5.Start engine preheating assembly (paragraph 2.8).WARNINGFailure to wear gloves when operating actuator, could result in severe personalinjury.6.Have a second person open flap (1, figure 2-26) and pull the fuel injection pump actuator rod (2) in the directionof the arrow.7.Start flame glowplug system (paragraph 2.9).8.Start diesel engine and release actuator/fuel injection pump linkage (paragraph 2.5.1.1).9.Allow diesel engine to warm up for approximately 10 minutes.10.
